KING JAMES BIBLE STUDY  "Thy word is truth."  John 18:17

TITLE:  THE HOLY WORD OF GOD
LESSON:  THREE

INTRODUCTION:  One of the things that makes Christianity different from other religions is the
claim to have absolute written authority from God in the Holy Bible.  Without the Bible, there can
be no Christian growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Eveything that a
child of God needs to fully equip him in his Christian life is found in the word of God, the Bible.
We refer, in the case of English speaking people, to the Authorized Version, better known to most
folks as the King James Version Bible.  Every Christian is obey the word of God, no exceptions!

The aim of this lesson is to acquaint the new Christian with the basics of the Bible, to a limited
extent, of course.  Also, an effort will be made to show how the Bible relates to the child of  God's
everyday life.  This will help in understanding how its principles are to guide, direct, and affect
every facet of the Christian's walk with the Lord.  Psalm 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my
feet and a light unto my path."

I.  Salvation and God's precious and holy word.

A.  1 Peter 1:23 tells us that a person is born again "by the word of God."
B.  Ephesians 2:8,9 teaches us, "For by grace are ye saved through faith...",Romans 10:17 says,
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
C.  The Bible summarizes the gospel in four parts in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4:
    1.  Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross.
    2.  He was buried.
    3.  Rose bodily from the grave.
    4.  According to the Scriptures (word of God).
E.  You must believe what the Bible says about sin, your lost condition, and God's plan of sal-
vation, to ever be saved.  That's not optional!

II.   Once saved according to God's word, it becomes the absolute and infallible guide, instructing
you how to live for the Lord.  You are not left to your feelings, whims, and ideas.  God does not
save you and let you wander.

III.  What part does the Bible play in the life of a child of God?
     A.  It equips you for correct service to God.  "That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished unto all good works."  2 Timothy 3:16-17; Ephesians 6:10-18.
     B.  God, through His word, sustains you.  You can easily see that by Scriptures that refer to
the Bible as a "spiritual food."  Consult Job 23:12, along with Jeremiah 15:16.  You get a complete
and fully balanced diet from the Bible.
    1.  Milk   1 Peter 2:2
    2.  Honey   Psalm 119:103
    3.  Apples   Proverbs 7:2
    4.  Bread  Luke 4:4
    5.  Water   Isaiah 55:10,11
    6.  Meat   Hebrews 5:12-14
    7.  Vegetables   Psalm 78:24
Are you ready to eat?  All of that is ready for you.
    C.  The word of God keeps you clean and pleasing to God.  Psalm 119:11, John 15:3

IV.  Is the Holy Bible absolutely and completely reliable and trustworthy?

     A.  Peter said the word of God was more sure than the physical appearance and audible voice
of God.  Read 2 Peter 1:16-21 and compare it with Matthew 17:1-9.
     B.  The universe was created by the spoken word of God.  Hebrews 11:3; Psalm 33:6, Genesis 1:3.

V.   How do I go about learning the Bible?
      A.  The blessed Holy Spirit of God will lead and guide you into all truth.  God may use other means
to aid in teaching (books, tapes, preachers, etc.), but ultimately, truth is revealed by the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26, John 16:13-15
      B.  You learn the Bible by comparing Scripture with Scripture, relying upon the Holy Spirit to teach
you and not your own natural intellect.  "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out
of Thy Law."  Psalm 119:18

VI.   A brief history of the Holy Bible.
      A.  There is a total of sixty-six books---thirty-nine in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New
Testament.
      B.  God used more than forty men to write the Bible.
      C.  The books of the Bible fit together perfectly, as if written by one man.   This is because the author
of all sixty-six books is the Holy Spirit.  2 Peter 1:21
      D.  The Holy Bible was written over a period of time spanning roughly 2,000 years.  It is absolutely
accurate in all matters of history, prophecy, science, and every other issue of life, of which it speaks.
It has no contradictions within its pages.
      E.   Please read the following famous anonymous quote concerning the Bible:
"The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and
the happiness of believers.  Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are all true,
and its doctrines are immutable.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.  It contains light to direct you,
food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.  It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's
compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter.  CHRIST is its grand subject, our good its
design, and  the glory of GOD its end.  It should fill the memory, rule the heart and mind, and guide
the feet.
Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully.  It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of Glory, and a river of
pleasure.  It is given to you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever.  It
involves the highest responsibility, rewards the greatest labor and condemns all who trifle with its
holy contents."
